Learn How to Prevent Sports Injuries and Recover From Them, and increase Flexibility, With These Two Books!
Disclosure / Disclaimer: I received these books from Human Kinetics, via EdelweissPlus, free of charge, for review purposes on this blog. No compensation, monetary or in kind, has been received or implied for this post. Nor was I told how to post about them, all opinions are my own
This second edition also features new chapters explaining how and why injuries happen, as well as different types of injection therapies and when they may be most beneficial. You’ll also learn how to prevent injuries from occurring in the first place with proper conditioning, body maintenance, and nutrition.
Review: Like the previous book, this book gives the reader high-quality illustrations and an easy to use/understand format, with instructions and importantly, needed understanding of HOW the injury occurred to prevent it in the future. I think this book is really aimed more at KIDS, versus the first one. Kids see anatomy and go 'ugh', give them pictures of athletes and suddenly they are interested! But many of the injuries are ones they may have dealt with, or a team mate has, so they may even want to share the book! It's a definite MUST HAVE for parents (AND coaches) to read and keep on hand, for when the inevitable happens! From dealing with the injury to recovery, everything is covered! It's a valuable resource to have!
Today I've got not 1, but 2 exercise and sports books for you- whether its you who has taken up a new fitness routine or sport, or your child, both of these books are great to have on hand!
Prescriptive Stretching, Eliminate pain and Prevent Injury by Kristian Berg:

No one likes to live with aches and pain. Whether the pain is caused by poor posture, repetitive movements, injury, or sedentary behavior, Prescriptive Stretching, Second Edition, can help put you on the path to feeling better and living without the pain. You’ll find various types of stretches and techniques, including individual unassisted stretches, the use of a tennis ball to target troublesome areas like the shoulder and feet, and partner stretches to ease pain caused by poor posture or sitting for long periods of time. Most importantly, Prescriptive Stretching offers ready-to-use stretching sequences to target specific problem areas.
Review: This is a REALLY good book! I had bought a similar book for my daughter, that is targeted at Irish dancers, but this book really covers it ALL. Obviously with a rotator injury, I was interested to see how the exercises in the book compared with my PT drills, and I was thrilled to see how well they line up. From stretching BEFORE exercise, to recovery from injuries from said workout, everything is covered here! We're so impressed with the book that mu daughter may use it for a High School elective class! And in fact, there is a companion continuing education exam that certified professional can complete after reading this book (purchased separately or you can buy them as a set)!
This second book might be more for the kids in your house....
