Synopsis:

American adults fear Alzheimer¹s more than any other disease (including cancer), and because many people do not realize there is no genetic cause for 99 percent of Alzheimer¹s cases, they do not take the necessary steps to change lifestyle factors shown to significantly protect against the disease. In her debut book, board-certified neuropsychologist Dr. Michelle Braun inspires readers to make lasting improvements by understanding the truth about brain health and providing expert guidance through the maze of conflicting media advice on supplements, brain games, nutrition, and exercise.
Braun interviews eight leading brain health experts, combining their insights with cutting-edge research to offer proven strategies to implement the five steps of the High-Octane Brain. Interactive exercises guide readers to develop a personalized program for optimal brain health. Dr. Braun provides a tracking system with a visual depiction of progress, and shows the High-Octane Brain plan in action through the lives of clients. Packed with valuable tips that you can implement immediately to minimize common "brain blips," exercises to boost your memory within minutes, and inspiring insights from nine High-Octane Brain role models ages 44 to 103, this groundbreaking book will finally put the future of your brain in your control.

Review:

This book teaches us that preventing Alzeimer's is more than taking supplements and keeping your brain active. Rather it is a 3 part puzzle- your genetics and family history are the first part that comes into play. You may not be able to chance them, but you might be able to alter their path by the other 2 oarts. First is what you expect- keeping your brain active- learning, Keeping your brain active is the same as keeping your body active0 it enriches it and keeps all its processes in a healthy zone. Andthe last part is also one you might expect- a healthy lifestyle. What does that mean? A better diet, more sleep, less stress, Obviously this is the area where we might have the most issues, if you are still working and have kids at home! But the part that I loved about this was the author saying to make one change at a time, and sticking with it, before adding another one. In other words, make it a habit, and then move on to the next one. Ultiately every change you make adds years to keep off brain effects. And everything that leads to a healthier lifestyle leads to a healthier brain! This is the book to invest in now, to learn what changes you need to make, for a better retirement later. Think of it as back to school for your brain!
