In the newest addition to a riveting series perfect for fans of Nevada Barr, Faye must save her most precious cargo—her daughter

Synopsis:

Faye Longchamp's heart is broken by a hurricane that hits the Florida panhandle, wrecking her island home and wreaking havoc on the lives of nearby friends and neighbors. To make matters worse, Faye's seventeen-year-old daughter, Amanda, has fallen for a charming man nearly twice her age—a man who is mysteriously silent about his past.

When Amanda unexpectedly takes out a boat and disappears one night, Faye can't wait for help to arrive before she sets out to search with a mother's desperate love.

In this, the thirteenth book in Mary Anna Evans's widely praised series, Faye will stop at nothing to find her daughter and bring her home.

Review:

It's hard to believe this is the 13th book in the series, as it seems like it just started! I have to admit I think this book might just be my fav in the series! Maybe it's because of current events (Hurricanes Marco, Laura and soon to be Sally, and why I put it on History Thursday), but it just struck the right chord. Faye and her husband are typical of the Southern people who look after one another, and don't count on 'outside help' to deal with the immediate aftermath of a hurricane- you count on neighbors and strangers. That's the way it has always been, and will continue to be. But like always, there are always people looking to make a buck from hurrican damage, no matter who it hurts. Only this time, Faye's family, especially her GROWN daughter are in the way. Faye not only has to figure out who is after her family, but convinve the waterlogged, exhausted Sheriff's office that there is immediate damger to them, all the while while dealing with a parents worst nightmare- grown kids going out into the world far away from mom and dad! This is a roller coaster read, once you hit about midway, so be prepared to hunker down and stay with it! It can be read as a stand alone for the series, as enough background is given, as well.
