This 'new' series for kids has actually been around for quite a few years, but only recently did the historical books get added. Both series are a good way to get kids involved in reading during the Summer, so I'm including them together in one post.
First up, the original series:

Colton's Pocket Dragon: Book 1: Dragon LandCome fly with Colton and his pocket dragon! Colton is a ten-year-old boy who finds an egg that he keeps safe and warm until one day it hatches, revealing a baby dragon. With every book, join Colton and his pocket dragon as they go off on flying adventures. Together they will find and save Iggy the bigfoot, Skylar the dinosaur, Tansy the abominable snowman, and Bernie the orangutan and explore a haunted house and encounter the master dragon and others. Together they will find tree monsters, snow monsters, gargoyles, wolves, snakegons, ghosts, and a gigantic mole. Come tag along with Colton and his pocket dragon on their adventures.
Early readers will need these books read to them, but those in the 3-5th grades should have no problem. This book introduces Colton and how he came to not only have a baby pocket dragon, but to meet more and learn how to travel on amazing adventures. It's a fun little book, that shows dragons can be unscary and friendly, and teaches kids that appearances and assumptions are frequently wrong, and sometimes, people (and monsters) can be just as scared of you, based on their assumptions too! There are 12 books in this, the original series, and all are about 60 pages each. As you can see below, they are filled with bright color drawings, that will appeal to kids, and help to push the story along. They're perfect for light Summer reading.
The second book, is the 3rd in the historical series.
COLTON'S TIME MACHINE Book 3: Jefferson, Adams and Franklin
There are now 5 books in the series, and like the original, are short at about 60 pages each, and each takes on a different period in history, with our favorite boy and his pocket dragon imagining themselves back in time. In this book, it's back to the time of the Declaration of Independence being made, and spending time with Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and Samuel Adams.
Again, they are aimed at the 3-5th grade kids, but even adults can pick up some nuggets of history from this series, and book. It is a little hard to imagine our founding father's not being shocked when confronted with a boy who time travelled from modern times wearing strange clothes, with a flying dragon, but they just roll with it. Reality is they probably would have been thinking witchcraft, would have had the dragon shot, and would NOT have listened to a young child (children were seen but not heard).... So if your kids aren't too hip on history, they'll be ok, letting the 'no issue' thing go and enjoying the rest of the book. I'd call these a supplement- either use to reinforce history, or to get them interested in it.
Check out Rebecca's website for more info on both series.

About the Author:
What would happen if you discovered an egg that would reveal an amazing animal who would become your best friend and turn your boring days into fun filled adventures?
I grew up in Beaver City, Nebraska a small town in the Midwest. then moved to Gilbert, Arizona in the 80's. These books explore the importance of friendship, bravery and imagination.
I hope to instill the excitement of imagination in young readers, as well as the adults sharing in these fun filled, adventurous stories with endearing characters as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
