David A.R. White

Movie Synopsis:

The God’s Not Dead franchise continues in God’s Not Dead: We the People as Reverend Dave (White) is called to defend a group of Christian homeschooling families. He finds himself taken aback by the interference of the government, and believing that their right to educate their own children is a freedom worth fighting for, Reverend Dave is called to Washington DC to testify in a landmark congressional hearing that will determine the future of religious freedom in our country for years to come.

In the words of Ronald Reagan, “Freedom is a fragile thing”. Individual freedoms and liberties are at the center of this passionate and emotional story, and it runs from the heart of the country to the corridors of Washington.
Who will decide what a child needs to know for generations to come?
Will God be left behind?

Review:

I feel very blessed to have the God's Not Dead franchise start when my daughter was 7 yrs old, at a time when she was so OPEN for the message, the first movie brought! And it did make a huge impact on her, both spiritually and lyrically (the Newsboys were 'da bomb', and all that got heard around our house for quite awhile, and resulted in not 1, but 2 birthday trips to see them, LOL). And in those 7 years since, all three of the franchise movies (God's Not Dead 2 and God's Not Dead: A Light in Darkness) have continued to make an impact on her, and have helped to build a moral core, that she holds other movies and series to! So now, as she is starting high school, and has been homeschooled for 5 years, this new addition to the franchise comes as she is making choices and decisions, on an adult level. So I was really interested to see how it would not only appeal to her as a teen, but by faith.

The new movie has several themes running through it, but at it's core it's really about our Father's love, and how if we keep the faith, we will never loose it, and his will WILL be done. And that is shown in many different ways throughout the film. We watched the movie together, and we both felt that it should have been a bit longer, as some parts felt rushed/edited to much. We didn't go into homeschooling lightly, there was a LOT of research on my part, and we've been part of some excellent groups, including HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association), so our approach to the movie was a little different. While we truly appreciated how the fight against homeschooling was taken on, it felt a bit too "lifetime-ish", per the teen, "seriously, HSLDA would have been fighting them and that court order wouldn't have stood at all!". But I reminded her, there wouldn't have been a movie then, LOL.

Overall, it's a good movie about the overreach of government into what should be parental rights. Just as the Federal government is overreaching again into State's rights, and it's not a matter of what party you belong to, it's all of our rights being taken away. That's a key message that shouldn't be lost. Just as we should always keep faith that God will show us the right way, the path he has for us. It did spark a LOT of discussion with my teen (seriously, homeschool kids can NOT just watch a movie, they have to keep stopping it for discussion, analogy and diatribes!!), and that is ALWAYS a good thing! Add in the fact, that it is a Christian MAINSTREAM movie (something that was a rarity 7 years ago), and it is even MORE important for EVERYONE to see the movie!
