Review:

I have read countless books on organization, and yes I have an OCD brain, BUT we also have very crazy hectic, stressful lives, and that Kondo look just doesn't happen in our home, ya know? We try, but time gets past us, and the clothes are back hanging out on the chair, versus being put away. We've all been there.

And all those books/shows seem to go the same way- you don't need it, get rid of it. Period. But what if you DO need some of that stuff, and you use it a LOT? That's where things can get tricky. The author's get that. Which is why they start off with a different set of questions- how do YOU use this space? what do YOU need available quickly?

Maybe to someone else, all those craft supplies in boxes in a closet is great. But what if you use them every day? Getting them back in those boxes is going to be a chore, and you'll end up back where you are now. Game nights twice a week? Maybe you don't want your favorite games stacked on the bottom shelf in another room, where you have to move 6 games to get to the one you want. Your bedroom an oasis of calm and sleep, or do you go there to get work done? Both are entirely different set ups and looks. Do you want your cookbooks at hand in the kitche, or stored on a pretty bookshelf in the hallway because you rarely use them (honestly the island above is my dream island- that's where I want MY cookbooks, so I'll USE them!)? Their solutions answer the YOU questions.

I felt much lighter reading this book- it's ok to know what YOU need to keep and KEEP it. Just organize it in a way that works for YOU and YOUR family. How you want your kitchen may not work for the way we use ours. figure out functions and needs BEFORE you start stripping, and it will help you better determine what to get rid of and what to keep, and then how to organize it. Seems so simple, right?

Look at this mudroom- it's a small space, but the needs are simple- purse/key location, jacket hangups, shoe storage and a seat. So no need to spend $$$ and make it complicated. Just put what you are using NOW on the rack/hangers. bench opens up? Even better, store hats, gloves and scarves there, for just in case. Easy and done. It works simply without FUSS. And even if it gets a bit messy, the simplicity means clean up is under 5 minutes. THAT'S the true beauty of it!

So if you're like us and the house is getting otu of hand, take 5 and pick up this book, even 1 or 2 chapters will get you rethinking how to make YOUR house work for you- we've already re done our laundry room and started on our kitchen. Bathrroms are next! We're starting with the easier rooms first, for us the craft room is last because we need to take it in steps. Check out this book and see where YOU can make some changes to and free up the clutter and chaos in your home!
