Book Review: A Time to Die by Stephen Puleston

Synopsis:

Welsh Inspector Ian Drake is called to the discovery of a body of a man on a popular beach. The dead man is due to give evidence in an important trial of two vicious criminals and suspicion immediately falls on both men. But Drake faces the challenges of unravelling the dead’s man family and discovers everything is not as it seems.

As another witness in the important case is killed Drake’s superior office is convinced the known felons are to blame. And when a suspect linked to the dead man’s wife absconds Drake believes he has the culprit.

But the discovery that witnesses exists changes everything. Can he find them before the killer?

Review:

This is book 10 in the Insp Drake series, and Sometimes after a while, series can get stale. Not this one! Stephen has figured out a way to put a bit of a twist into the latest book, and really make the characters shine, yet focus more on the crime and suspects. It's subtle, but just enough to make it fresh. The mystery is good- what seems to true, with the first murder, suddenly doesn't look right with the second. How could 2 murder victims, so different, be connected? The team has to find out why so they can keep any other murders from occurring, making a fast page turner for the last 1/3 of the book! Not one to miss if you love the series, and an interesting dive into it, if you're new!

I write mysteries and thrillers.

I write a series featuring Inspector Drake based in North Wales and also a series featuring Inspector John Marco based in Cardiff. The Drake mystery series has five books - Brass in Pocket, Worse than Dead, Against the Tide, Dead on your Feet and A Time to Kill.
