Synopsis:

Review:
Sometimes Swedish novels can be hard to get into- sometimes its the translations, sometimes it a different speech pattern. But I've found with Carlsson's books that he tends to grab you by the scenic descriptions and character descriptions. With this book you're well into the mystery before the 'quirks' of being set in a different country come into play- but stay with the book- Vidar is a character that is relatable and honest, and as you see how the death has affected not only him but others in the community, it echoes any small town in America. With a bit of a twist at the end, this book reward you for your patience!
About the Author:
Christoffer Carlsson was born in 1986 on the west coast of Sweden. He holds a PhD in criminology from the University of Stockholm and is one of Sweden’s leading crime experts. Carlsson is the youngest winner of the Best Swedish Crime Novel of the Year, voted by the Swedish Crime Writers’ Academy, and has been a finalist for the prestigious Glass Key award, given to the best Scandinavian crime novel of the year.
About the Translator:
Rachel Willson-Broyles became interested in Sweden and the Swedish language at an early age. She majored in Scandinavian Studies at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, and received her BA there in 2002. She started translating while a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received a Ph.D. in Scandinavian Studies in 2013. Rachel lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
