We've ALL heard the song, know the lyrics by heart, but do you know ANYTHING about the voice behind the song, I WILL SURVIVE? There's a documentary about the song and the artist behind it, the amazing Ms. Gloria Gaynor, debuting THIS week! GLORIA GAYNOR: I WILL SURVIVE is the story of a Disco legend who, for five decades, has inspired millions with her words I WILL SURVIVE, but only understood the lyrics when she hit rock bottom herself. This strong, beautiful woman has endured many challenges in her life, and this inspiring film shows her journey to the world of Gospel music.

Review:

THAT song was my mom's personal anthem when I was growing up, as she was so often a single mom, thanks to dad's military career and extended absences. In the days before email and cell phones, there were times when there would be weeks before we knew where he was or what they were up to. But did I ever know the women behind the song? Not really, I was too young, and then she went to Europe and got off my radar. Hearing her story, of abuse when she was young, emotional abuse as a wife and singer, and finally taking the reins finally and doing what she feels is the way to bring others to the light, if life affirming and makes you realize JUST how much she lived her biggest hit.

It's amazing to hear that she STILL has her voice, has such an amazing gift for writing a song, and wanting to tell God's healing grace thru her songs. It hurts the heart to think that record producers did not want to giver her a chance to make a gospel album, but hearing the songs in this documentary makes you know how WRONG they were! That first gospel album, Testimony debuted in the top 5, was nominated for not 1 but 2 Grammy awards, and WON best roots gospel album in 2020- so you KNOW it is AWESOME!  Gloria is so much more than her past- it's her future that is shining even brighter today with God's grace! Take your friends, your mom, your sister to see this movie- you'll all walk out amazed and shouting her name once again, and eagerly awaiting the 2nd gospel album from this AMAZING 80 year old!
