Synopsis:

Infused with Snoopy and the Peanuts gang’s wholesome, honest humor, this guide to outdoor adventures teaches valuable wilderness practices and outdoor skills. To make outdoor learning fun and rewarding, readers can collect Beagle Scout Badges (eight total) at the end of every chapter of this wilderness guide. Each badge relates to an important outdoor lesson that is learned within each chapter, from camp cooking and how to build a campfire or pitch a tent, to safety smarts and respecting plant and animal life and how to leave no trace.

Portable and durable, the journal features tips and tricks to make any hike into the wild a memorable and fun experience for the whole family – including games, activities, ideas for sing-a-longs and how to make the best camp treats (including s’mores, of course!). Plus, there’s writing prompts and space to record favorite sights, moments, wildlife and natural wonders and more.

Review:

As you can see from the samples, this is really part guide, part interactive workbook, and great for the beginner hiker, or to bring on your family camping trip. From identifying cloud, to berries, to trees, to wildlife, this book has it covered for learning about the wilderness you are in. Aimed at kids, it's easy for them to read and use, without parental instruction. Sections include Gear, Cooking, Camping, Leading the Way and how to be a good Beagle Scout (like Snoopy). Both Miss Grace and I loved how the vintage Peanuts cartoons were added in for both humor and related fun. Perfect for gift giving this Fall season, be sure to add it to your vacation and Christmas gift giving lists too!
