In an idyllic Norfolk village, a stunning Roman mosaic floor has been discovered. It’s the archaeological find of the decade – complete with peacock design, intricate patterns and… a dead body?

The Body at the Roman Baths cover
Synopsis:

Georgina Drake is thrilled to photograph the ancient mosaic uncovered at Little Wenborough Manor. But her excitement turns to shock when she finds the lead archaeologist dead on the floor. Instead of ancient secrets, Georgina is soon caught up in a very modern murder.

Comforting the other distressed archaeologists, Georgina discovers this isn’t the first time tragedy has struck this site. Over a century ago, a young Victorian scholar vanished without trace during the original dig, leaving behind a devastated fiancĂ©e and a trail of unanswered questions.

As Georgina delves into both mysteries, she discovers surprising connections between past and present. With help from her friends, Georgina pieces together a story of forbidden love, blackmail and betrayal. But someone in the village would prefer these secrets stay buried, and she’ll need all her wits to catch a killer before they strike again…

Review:

This is book 5 in the series and Georgina has no plan to get involved in any investigation, she just wants to photograph a very unique and amazing Roman mosaic. All looks well and good to go, but then before she can, a body lands in it. Was it murder? Is it tied to the dig? As she tries to help her friend figure out where her family member disappeared to, as distraction from what appears to be too many suspects and motives for the murder, she realizes she may stumbled on a historical murder, and in an odd way, they appear to be connected. But while the historical murderer can't come after her, someone else nearby is thinking she is getting way too close and looking to distract her, and then remove her from the scene. A page turner, this is a great read to the series.

About the Author:

Kate is the award-winning author of more than 100 books for Harlequin Mills & Boon, and in 2023 she began the cosy crime Georgina Drake series for Storm Publishing.

For her romances, she’s won the RNA Shorter Fiction Award three times (formerly Liberta Books Shorter Fiction, the Romance Prize and the RoNA Rose): for ‘A Will, a Wish and a Wedding’ (2021), ‘Bound By a Baby’ (2014) and 'Breakfast at Giovanni's' (2008). She's been shortlisted six more times for the award, as well as for two Romantic Times awards. For the crime: there's no on-the-page gore (well... not much) so, if you like her romances, you'll definitely enjoy the Georgina Drake mysteries because it's basically the Kate Hardy you know plus more secondary characters and a body or two (!). If you're not a romance fan, you'll enjoy the characters and unravelling the puzzles.

Kate lives in Norwich in the east of England with her husband, two springer spaniels (Archie and Dexter, the Edit-paw-ial Assistants who are the precursor to Georgina's Drake's assistant Bert), and too many books to count. She's a bit of a nerd (cough, understatement) who loves music, cinema, the theatre, ballet, history, science, cross-stitch and messing about in the kitchen. She loves doing research, particularly if it's hands-on (and even more if it means sneaking in an extra visit to her two grown-up children, now they've graduated from uni and left home).

Reviewers say that her books are full of warmth, heart and charm - and also that you'll learn something new and interesting from them!

Kate has also written bestselling local history books under the name of Pamela Brooks.
