Jelly rolls are samples of fabric by different manufacturers, matched and put together into a roll- they are always 2 1/2 inches long and vary in width, and usually contain about 40 pieces per roll. They are enough to make a small project, or to make pieces of a larger one. I love them, because some of the hard work has already been done for you- the matching of colors! Many of the projects in this book are perfect for using up leftovers from previous jelly rolls, along with a new one. The author assumes you know the basics of sewing and some quilting, so you get just a small preface of tips and set up info.
I love the ghost table banner for Halloween season- it would be easy to adjust it to using the whales for Summer, or cats for Fall, likewise the Tag Sale Floral topper, could easily be made from different themed jelly rolls for holidays and seasons. They can all be finished in a weekend. The larger throws may take longer, but you could easily do multiple sections, and finish them within a month or two, making them great for weekend creativity.I've always had a love of star quilts, so I would probably say the 5 star quilt (on the cover) is my favorite project from the book, but the pixelated herringbone is one I fall back on, when making quilts for giving- it's easy to make strips one weekend, piece them together the next, then bind and quilt to finish. if using all machine work, they can go very quickly! I will probably be using the Lucky Charm ladybug with some special fabric I've held onto from Miss Grace's infanthood. If you want to get back into quilting with some simple projects this summer, be sure to pick up this fun and bright book!About the Author:
