A highly rated mystery/thriller series takes a bone-chilling jaunt to Scotland.
Synopsis:
Port Stirling, Oregon, police chief Matt Horning and his special agent wife, Fern, finally get their well-deserved vacation on a getaway to Shetland and the Scottish Highlands.
But their heart-warming holiday turns deadly in a pulse-pounding game of cat and mouse when they reach Edinburgh. Did this shocking, brazen crime originate back home in Port Stirling? Is it the fallout of one – or several – previous cases resolved by Matt and Fern?
Matt must rely on his local team of detectives in Oregon to revisit recent cases while he navigates the labyrinth of Edinburgh’s cobblestone streets, and the maze of Police Scotland. Unused to giving up control, Matt is required to work with his new colleague, DCI Stuart MacLean, to assist in the investigation.
So many motives…so many reasons to kill. Can the team beat the ticking clock deadline, or will the unimaginable happen for Matt in his nerve-shattering fight for all that he loves?
This atmospheric story where worlds collide is perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, Kendra Elliot, Ann Cleeves, and Val McDermid
Review:
This is book 8 of the series, and admittedly, I've only read a couple books in the series, so in a way, this book was my way of catching up with the Port Stirling series. The book starts off with a bang, with a kidnapping on their honeymoon. As a law enforcement officer, Matt wants to take charge, but he's wat out of his jurisdiction, so making friends with Stuart, and get him on his side. Meanwhile he has to have his team go through his previous cases, to see if the suspect could be somewhere in those file. The book slows as all the background search is being done, but then speeds back up when it gets to the last bit. If you're a fan of the series, you'll love this new addition. If you're new to the series, you might want to start a few books back before reading this one,
About the Author:
Thank you for visiting my page. I'm a member of Mystery Writers of America, Sisters In Crime, Willamette Writers, IBPA, and Oregon Writers Colony.
With my debut novel, Shallow Waters, I introduced a thrilling new mystery series set in my native state of Oregon, alongside our rugged Pacific coast. The second installment, Midnight Beach, continued the excitement with a story based on a real-life crime. Code: Tsunami, the third book in the series, is - I desperately hope - NOT based on a real-life future event. Dark Sand, the fourth installment, picks up the action one year after the earthquake and tsunami. Phantom Cove, book 5 in the series and my personal favorite (so far!) was published in late 2022. It was followed by bestselling Mourning Bay in 2023. Cold Rock Island, book 7, will publish in May, 2024. Book 8 is underway, and I hope to complete it by late 2024.
Born in the southwest corner of Oregon in a small town not unlike my fictional Port Stirling, I now live in Estacada, Oregon, with my charming husband, Steve, a technology entrepreneur.
Before turning to writing novels, I enjoyed a long career in corporate communications in such varied industries as tourism, healthcare, and sports. Since 2000, I've owned Paris Communications, a marketing, PR, and publishing firm.
Like many Oregonians, I'm passionate about gardening, and earned Master Gardener status. A true plant nerd, I'm obsessively zealous about growing vegetables, although with 34 roses and counting, one could also make the case that I'm a tiny bit obsessed with roses, too.
I love the outdoors, particularly in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and I'm happiest hiking, playing bad golf, and enjoying the beaches, rivers, and lakes.
A determined, avid traveler since my teens, I've visited dozens of countries around the world. While every place has its charms if you look hard enough, I include Scotland, the Galapagos Islands, Switzerland, Maui, and France’s Dordogne region among my favorites. High on my post-Covid travel list currently are the Shetland Islands, Japan, and New Zealand.
