Review:

Split into 4 sections, this book takes you from the psychology/emotional aspect of setting goals, to learning what you need to be eating (more protein!), to how to work out and then all about recovery (and what do to if you get injured). Admittedly part 1 was not my thing, and if wasn't what I needed from this book- but for others, it may be critical part of their growth. Part 2 was really interesting to me-how many calories (REE) and how many grams of protein you need based on YOU (your body/age) and how we need to eat close to it, NOT under it, to keep our muscle and what part protein also helps in keeping and growing that muscle. Lyon offers examples of different foods and meal ideas, that will make you rethink the traditional protein diet. You also get a small sampling of recipes, covering all meals, drinks and desserts, and they're pretty much what you think they will be.

Part 3 is split into HIT type training and stretching along with muscle workout, using simple dumbbells and your own body resistance. This was a good refresher to me, as I knew I had been skipping a couple of arm/back exercises from an old program I used to use, and they were all here. This section is definitely made for those already active, for those with issues, you may have to adjust until you can come to these. Part 4 is all about recovery and the best ways to recover after exercise- both mentally and physically.

Overall it's not a bad book for taking on a new outlook for your eating/exercise plan and working with your body, not against it, to loose more weight and gain muscle. For those looking for a simple book that is easy to understand with simple diagrams, this is it.
