So you started the new year with the best of intentions- maybe you got through the holidays with a little help from GLP-1s, or from hard dieting. But now you're thinking about other options. These 2 new books can help you not only make up your mind about starting GLP-1s, but how to maximize them and then how to effectively get off of them and maintain your weight loss.
A board-certified endocrinologist shares her must-have guide to using GLP-1 medications, such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound, to reverse obesity and take charge of your health, with established strategies for maximizing your results
Whether your struggle to lose weight has lasted years or started more recently, GLP-1 medications will help you finally end it. While GLP-1s have redefined how we treat obesity, the search for expert care is likely to leave you feeling confused, overwhelmed, and unheard. Misconceptions are everywhere. Many doctors are still catching up with the science. And you may find a prescription but not the medical supervision you need for the best results.
In Weightless, Dr. Rocio Salas-Whalen, a board-certified endocrinologist and expert in obesity medicine, delivers the real-world strategies that have helped thousands of patients achieve health goals that once felt out of reach. Her deeply compassionate approach sees obesity, not as a personal failure but as a chronic health condition that deserves medical treatment. Drawing on years of clinical expertise and the lived experience of her patients, she explains how to:
· Rethink what you know about weight management: Learn why “eat less, move more” is an outdated and ineffective prescription.
· Give your GLP-1 journey a strong start: Choose an experienced provider, ask the right questions at every appointment, and get better outcomes if you’re using telehealth.
· Preserve muscle for long-term success: Follow Dr. Salas-Whalen’s advice for increasing protein intake and optimizing your strength training.
· Protect your progress: Manage side effects with evidence-based care, recognize when you need a dosage change, and know what to do when GLP-1s don’t work.
· Adjust to life after GLP-1s: Navigate the unexpected physical, social, and psychological changes that accompany significant weight loss.
Comprehensive and empowering, Weightless offers judgment-free support that ensures you never feel alone on this journey.
Review:
This book may be a revelation to most people- the author does a great job in looking into updated nutritional guidelines that are much changed from the ones you may THINK you know. She helps the reader to understand how hydration and protein play a much bigger part in our diets, and why fad diets fail. She takes a doable approach to GLP-1s and helps you to understand what you need to understand before, during and after. This includes picking the right one for YOU, and YOUR body and how it can handle the GLP-1. Of all the books I've read (and it has been a LOT while doing my research on GLP-1s)- this one aligns with what my doctor has presented and talked to me about, and we have discussed parts of the book and now she is recommending it to her other patients as well, as it is such a well rounder primer and reference book for GLP-1 usage! So if you're thinking about GLP-1 usage- GET THIS BOOK and read it first- it will help you with questions you have, and ones for your doctor. If you're already on one, it will help you moderate your use and plan meals better!
AND when you're ready to get off the GLP-1s......
Written by leading obesity experts Dr. Holly R. Wyatt and Dr. James O. Hill, Losing the Weight Loss Meds lays out a science- backed, 10-week program to replace medication with the power of food, physical activity, and mindstate. You’ll discover how to:

- Use physical activity to restore and optimize metabolism
- Strengthen your mind state to build resilience against cravings and setbacks

This isn’t another quick-fix diet. It’s a practical guide for the moment millions of people now face: life after GLP-1s.

Review:
For anyone who starts a GLP-1, the fear is getting off of them and having the weight all rebound. With any hope, you will have learned new habits, gotten a healthy diet and exercise regime and mentally be ready to get off of them. BUT, you worry about the 'food noise' coming back, right? This book aims to help you over those humps. It looks at a 10 week plan divided into 3 steps: Understanding the Game (know what will come and how to handle it), The Transition Playbook (ok, you're getting their but you need these steps), and Mastering the Long Game (yes, you can stay off the meds). The audio book was actually very engaging, and I listened to it while on the treadmill (!!), but I will definitely be getting a print copy for when I need the book. It's a solid plan, and if you read it ahead of time, you'll know where you need to be, to use it for success. I highly recommend it as well if you're starting, on or ready to get off of GLP-1s.
