Book Review: The Village Detectives and the Deadly Brew by Fiona Walker

Synopsis:

When handsome, former-rugby-playing, pub landlord Mil asks Juno Mulligan for a favour, she immediately says yes.

Although she’s initially disappointed that the favour doesn’t involve any sort of romantic shenanigans, Juno is reminded that she does love investigating mysteries. And perhaps it is just her destiny to choose crime-fighting over afternoon-delighting?

It’s an interesting case. Mil needs Juno and their fellow Village Detective, Phoebe Fredericks, to investigate a targeted campaign against the local Wyche Craft Brewery, now run by his friend, Ashleigh Wyche, a former-Lioness. A series of recent near-misses and attempts at sabotaging her property are surely no coincidence?

Then a body is discovered in the tap room, which quickly proves they were right to suspect there’s more than just a vendetta brewing… And if they’re to prevent another murder, they need to find out whether they’ve got the bottle to hunt down another killer…

Review:

Book 4 finds our village detectives somewhat floundering,  a couple of months after the previous book's events (The Little Black Book Killer). Juno went a bit overboard in promoting the detective business and after only a couple of small cases, there has been no business since. Plus she's ashamed about her night out with Mil. With Phoebe trying to finish her latest book and her husband in LA on business, the team is on life support, when Mil asks them to help out a mentor save his business, only Juno is enthusiastic. But slowly she drags Phoebe in. The more they find out at the brewery, the more they realize things are not what they seem both at the business and within the family that's running it. As the sabotage continues it's going to take the entire team afford to take this to try to figure out what is going on behind the scenes. This one may keep you guessing a little bit longer than others in the series. It's a fun entry and it's great to see the team come back together in the end. This is a fun series and I won't be surprised if it gets picked up by Acorn or BBC for a limited run, as it has that type of appeal.
