It’s a golden summer’s day in the Cotswolds. And garden designer Abby Finch is about to uncork the perfect murder . . .
Synopsis:
Huge-hearted Abby loves dogs — and doesn’t think twice about swerving to avoid an adorable terrier in a country lane. Or following along, when the troublesome pup goes darting off into a local vineyard.
But she never expects where the runaway dog is leading her — straight to a corpse!
Clementine Courtenay, elegant matriarch of the May Valley Vineyard, lies floating face-down in a stream.
The police say she must have slipped and drowned. But Abby’s not so sure.
As rumours begin to swirl amid the tangled vines, Abby realizes that no one in Clementine’s inner circle is quite what they seem.
Between jilted lovers, greedy offspring and bitter rivals, Clementine kept her friends close and her enemies closer still . . .
What secrets will Abby find — fermenting in the darkest corners of the Courtenay family cellar?
It’s up to Abby to solve the case before this sweetest vintage turns sour . . .
THE SETTING
Pretty Maybridge is a charming village set in the sheep-dotted Cotswolds hills, with a long history stretching back to Tudor times. It’s the type of place where everyone knows each other, but there's a wonderful bookshop on the corner of the bridge, a popular riverside cafĂ© and a bustling market at Christmastime. And with Bristol nearby and a big supermarket round the corner.
Review:
This is the first book in the series I have read parentheses this is book 4 ). Maybridge is a charming village and Abby runs a garden design business, that is starting to do very well. When a dog runs in front of her car and she slams to keep from hitting it, she doesn't realize how much her life is going to change. But first to find the dog's owner, but when she tries to drop the dog off at the rescue down the road, this owner runs to the vineyard and finds the dogs owner deceased. Now Abby is involved in fostering the dog and trying to figure out what happened to his owner. But things are not what they seem at the family owned Vineyard, as siblings fight each other for their deceased mothers attention and inheritance. But their mother kept secrets they are just about to find out about that may change everything. As Abby and the police hunt to discover what happened another murder occurs and that changes everything. A quick read, this is a good introduction to the series and will make you want to go back and read the previous three books.
