Book Review/ Blog BookTour: Knit, Purl and Die by Anne Canadeo

I was recently sent Knit, Purl & Die by Anne Canadeo through Pocket Books and BookBlogs ning, for review for this blog tour and wow so I love them for it!

This book was a great read from start to finish! In fact I received it on Wednesday and finished it Friday, after only 3 sittings!

You know me, I love a good mystery series, and if they have extras at the end like recipes or patterns, I’m totally hooked! So I was overjoyed to delve into this book!

In fact, I wish I LIVED in Plum Harbor, so I could go to the Black Sheep Knitting Shop on a regular basis-it’s my kind of store: great owner, wonderful selection of yarn, neat classes (I liked the idea of the Sandbox for Moms, Saturday get away class), a ready tray of treats and coffee/iced tea, comfortable tables to sit and knit and socialize at (inside and out) and great front porch to meet visitors at.

Course, if I lived in Plum Harbor, my town would have a serious murder problem!

This book is the 2nd in the Black Sheep Knitting Shop series and it is alot of fun and makes me want to go get the first book (My Pretty One Knits) and catch up before the next book comes out!

The premise:   Gloria Sterling had it all- money, looks and a sexy new young husband. So when she’s found floating face down in her own swimming pool, shock waves ripple though tiny Plum Harbor. At the Black Sheep knitting Shop, Maggie Messina and her circle of friends, are devastated to loose their friend-a woman as colorful as her fabulous yarn creations.

The police are quick to call it an accident, but sorting out Gloria’s final hours, leaves too many loose ends to satisfy her friends. The vivacious, fifty-one year old had her French manicured tips in more than a few pots, and the threads of some inside deals raise more question marks to her friends.

When the last person to see Gloria alive on that quiet summer night? Two empty wine glasses suggest she wasn’t home alone knitting the entire night. The Black Sheep Knitter group need to know the truth and set out to unravel, stitch by stitch, the weighty secrets that pulled poor Gloria under.

This story is actually told from Lucy Binger’s perspective this time and while you sorta see the plot unfolding (and who suspect probably is), there were enough surprises to keep you entertained and involved. I only had one quibble with something that supposedly happened after Gloria’s death, that wasn’t explained in the last chapter, and a character being introduced with no follow thru on him. I’m not sure if it was oversight, or left hanging to be continued in the next of the series (I’d tell you what they are, but they’re some of the surprises!)….Even though the story had some predictability, it was highly entertaining and I would definitely recommend it! If you like The Knitter’s Clun, and it’s sequels, you’ll love!

The book has some great extras at the end:
Recipes:
  • Chocolate dipped Macaroons
  • Pasta with Artichokes, Asparagus and Pesto.

Pretty cool, huh? And before you ask, no I don’t knit myself. As much as my grandmother, who was a master at it or my mother, who’s pretty good herself, tried, I never could get the hang of it. I can crochet though, so I can appreciate a good pattern when I see one, and the yard can be used for both, so I understand the love for the yarn!

So if you have a hankering for a good mystery and some fun crafting and cooking, go check out Knit, Purl & Die!

Disclosure: I received a review copy from  Pocket Books/Book Blogs free of charge, for me to review. I was NOT told how to review the book however.
