Book Review and Giveaway: That Mama is a Grouch by Sherry Ellis

Synopsis: In Sherry Ellis' delightful new book, children from age 3-7 will quickly learn that clutter-caused tension in a home can be avoided. In this story, Mama is having a bit of a tantrum over the mess, and the narrator, a precocious child indeed, soon understands all too well. Toys are strewn about as obstacles that can cause falls and short tempers. Mama is tired-tired-tired of cleaning up this constant clutter. In a voice as wise as it is adorable, the narrator reminds children that parents are human, with feelings and moods. At the same time, parents are reminded that children are, well, children! 


About the Author: Sherry Ellis was born in 1971 in Parma, Ohio. She is a professional musician who plays and teaches violin, viola, and piano. That Baby Woke Me Up, AGAIN is her first published book. Sherry enjoys hiking, running, and SCUBA diving in addition to reading, writing, and playing her instruments. She lives with her husband and two children in Loveland, Ohio.


Review: This book is guaranteed to make kids and adults laugh alike! Every mother will be able to relate to the fact that kids leave their toys EVERYWHERE in a house, unless they are constantly reminded to pick them up. Kids have short attention spans and they move so quickly from one thing to another, they flat out forget to pick up most of the time! The book is a funny way to talk to your child about their responsibilities and how if everyone works together, everyone is happy! 


Kiddo wasn't too happy with the title, but she laughed throughout the book and readily agreed that she doesn't always pick up her toys and we (the adults) trip over them, and the cat takes off with them, and then she can't find them later. While we don't have an infant, we do have alternate work schedules that have one of us sleeping during the day and having Kiddo screaming at the top of her lungs is not productive to sleep! So she understood how that related to her as well.


This is a great little book that helps to explain why MOM is having a bad day, while her daughter is having a great day running amok! I highly recommend it for all families!
