Welcome another book in the Jake Somers series!

We've reviewed Pecan Gap and Dark Shadows, and now comes

shadows cover

SynopsisWith a cast of characters that you've come to know and love, the Jake Somers mystery/suspense series illuminates the world of a private investigator and his close knit family group. In this the third in the series, we find Jake dealing with the murder of a beautiful college coed literally at his back door. And when multiple homicides occur across the city and under similar circumstances Jakes crime solving expertise is called upon by the police to help catch a serial killer. Death on a college campus, illegal synthetic drugs and a maniacal killer are all in a days work for Jake Somers.

Review: When an author contacts me and asks if I'll review another of their novels, I always feel like giving them a virtual 'high 5' and whooping with joy over the proverbial 'you like me' euphoric feeling! But when I REALLY liked the previous book, it just elevates that feeling to another level! SO when Don offered the first gallery of his latest Jake Somers book, of course I was hooked!

This book is a little shorter than the previous books, but still packs a tight mystery into it. When I first hooked into the series (well, what wasn't a series until we reviewers urged Don to make it one), I thought Jake was pretty much like Robert Parker's Spencer. In many ways he still is, but he has definitely softened in this book. I hate to say it, but he's been 100% domesticated. Not a bad thing, but it gives the book a different take than the first 2 books. It reads just as quickly as the others did, but it just seemed like it had been edited a little too much, like maybe some scenes were taken out and the info from them placed in others. It didn't hurt the book per se, just after reading the 2 prior novels, it felt like the ploting was off a little. Again, this is a great read, but I do recommend reading the other 2 books first (though you don't have to).

Available as an ebook, it is only available on Amazon right now.
