Can you believe June is almost over?

Seems sort of shocking doesn't it? Especially if you live in the South and you know that means July and August are coming up- not only 2 of the HOTTEST months down here, but also turbulent hurricane season months! 

Which is why June is National Safety Month- it gives us time to start stocking up ahead with items like water, batteries, first aid kit supplies, canned food, propane and lanterns, so if we have to go through another Katrina, we are ready to face it head on!

One of the things that we deal with is the possibility of having to evacuate. Now I'm in law enforcement, so that means I get to be part of the calvary and have to stay. But I have to send the kid off with the folks. We have actually gotten the packing for this down to a science that may seem odd to those not living in hurricane states! For example, we have ready bags with tolietries and underwear in a large carry on bag, ready to thrown in clothes and head out. We have all the family photo albums stored in a large tight fitting large plastic container, so that it can be easily thrown in the car with the bags, if they have to leave. Everything in the house can be replaced except the family pictures and the family bible! 

Another things we have ready to go into the car is our financial files. yes, most accounts are online nowadays, but you don't always HAVE computer access (trust me- cell phone towers go out and you can forget using your smartphone for ANYTHING). Not to mention if your house DOES get destroyed, it is a whole lot easier to have all that info in ONE location! I've relied on a plastic file bin, but thanks to Masterlock, I have a new file box that is even better!

Whew, that's a lot of info! Which is why we need to start early and have the file box ready to go during the Summer!
