blast off back to school banner

With Fall now upon us, it’s time for back to school sports, fall marathon training and more activities that require hydration for kids and adults alike.

The University of Connecticut’s Department of Kinesiology published a study in 2010, on children at sports summer camps showing that children rarely drink enough fluids to support their activity level. Most of the kids studied were already dehydrated when they arrived at practice, and then became more-so, despite the fact that they believed they were drinking enough.*

A new Sports drink is out, willing to take on the traditional drinks, with a healthier attitude.

Meet:

Body Armor is a new sport drink that aims to make you rethink what is in the sports drinks your kids chug down.
What makes it different, you ask?

More potassium-packed electrolytes than other sports drinks, while being lower in sodium, means your kids (or you) will get a faster muscle recovery, while giving your body what it needs to rehydrate, and to not be giving it more salt than it needs. The Electrolytes also help reduce muscle cramping, which we adults can really appreciate!

Add n it's high dose of vitamins, and your kids will be getting vitamins their body needs to recover from strenuous activity. The coconut water also contains Vitamin B and electrolytes naturally, for additional benefits. Add in the No artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners, and you have a drink you're happier to let your kids have.

One caution- one bottle of Body Armor is actually TWO servings, that means 140 calories per BOTTLE, and 9 tsp of sugar. This is NOT a drink to drink around the house! Now if your kid is involved in some serious/strenuous activity, like an all day soccer tournament or football game in 88 degree heat, then this is the drink they need, as the sugars and carbohydrates in Body Armor help to maintain your child's blood sugar level during their active time, and that equals energy and a way to delay muscle fatigue.  During very high-intensity activity, like that of soccer with sudden sprints, and prolonged running, and constant increased heart rate, your muscles require more energy than your body can make by breaking down carbohydrates and using oxygen. Generally this limit is reached at an hour. Your kids need a FAST way to get energy and using Body Armor is a way to provide that.

For Miss Grace an hour of steady Irish Dancing has a  MET (the amount of oxygen consumed at rest) level of about 8.2, which is 8 times normal essentially, and typically kids burn as many calories as cycling for the same time period during class, due to their elevated heart rate, So it requires a lot of energy and therefore calories. But she actually is not a huge fan of sweet drinks, since I took her off sodas a year and half ago. So she generally will alternate between a bottle of water and the Body Armor bottle, and generally drink under half a bottle of Body Armor, She comes away from class with less soreness, less fatigue and more energy.

Body Armor comes in 7 great-tasting flavors: Fruit Punch, Strawberry Banana, Orange Mango, Mixed Berry, Grape, Tropical Punch and Lemon Lime. Miss Grace declared a tie between Fruit Punch and Mixed Berry as her favorites, with Strawberry Banana a close second! She says they taste "more like real juice, versus that sour stuff "  (that other traditional brand, which she hates with a passion). And a kid that likes the taste, is going to be more willing to hydrate on their own, without prompting!

So if you're looking for a great tasting, better for you sports drink for your very active kids, or for yourself, check out Body Armor today!
